Life's Like ThatPray for Our Presidentby Jerry Bullock Will also was a prophet of national politics when he said, "Republicans want a man that can lend dignity to the office. Democrats want a man that can lend some money." Today we call it “bailout.’ America was founded on some basic fiscal principles. John Smith, while settling Jamestown, Virginia in the17th century stated it pretty simply, “If you don't work, you don't eat.” John was not being harsh nor did he not have compassion on the invalid and the truly needy. He was faced with a group of dandies who were above work, and the first year a lot of folks starved to death because these men would not carry their weight in the fields. Captain Smith was laying down the foundation for the free market system of development, production, sales and consumption that for 236 years have made the United States the standard by which all other nations are judged. Businesses that were badly managed were allowed the opportunity to fail. If you were working for one of these business, even if you might not have been a part of the problem, you ended up with the opportunity to look for another job. As the saying goes, I've been there and done that. From the cradle to the grave our mantra has become success is a gift of living; no one can be allowed to fail. My wife taught for several years in our high school. She taught because she loved to teach and she loved kids, She quit because she demanded success and her “weakness” was giving too many kids an F. Some schools no longer keep score in sports so everyone will be a winner. The true light of education burns low. Television and video games have created visual learners who can’t read a simple sentence. A presenter in a seminar I recently listened to said that anything we put on our web site should be written at the 3rd grade reading level if we want it understood. God gave us a mind to be developed and offers the gift of wisdom to all who pursue it. In His word he tells us to “study to show ourselves approved, a workman worthy of hire.” Life is not easy and failure is often a part of living. Government and laws cannot guarantee our safety. We are a part of God's creation and in Him alone is there safety. Our new president is going to need our prayers, perhaps more than any of his predecessors did.
