Life's Like ThatThe Gospel is Realby Jerry Bullock Red Skelton, another old time comic, was more honest. In his character as Junior, a usually naughty little boy, he prefaced his escapades with, “If I do, I goona gits a whippin’,” Then after a pause and a mischievous look on his face he would say, “I gonna dood it anyway.” The point of this is a simple fact that no one can make you angry or happy or sad. These are emotions that peculiarly belong to us and when we get angry or happy or sad or in love, it is because we have decided to do so. A simple illustration is the change that takes place in our emotions when a friend comes to our door. It may have been a frustrating morning; everything has gone wrong and you are ready to scream. The doorbell rings and your “what now?” turns to a sunny and pleasant smile when you open the door and see your friend. If that friend is Jesus, you are doubly blessed. Your life is about to change. When Faith comes in, we are given another choice. We can call ourselves Christian and let the grace of the Spirit fill our lives, or we can go about our business with nothing but a cross hanging around our neck and do pretty much what we want to do. Yes, even God does not make us do anything. He wants us to choose and to make the right choice. Jesus said we are to take up our cross daily and follow Him. Wearing the most beautiful cross on a golden chain around the neck does not count as carrying the cross. If nothing in your life has changed except you are wearing the cross, that is nice but no prize. Taking up your daily cross is the ultimate of asking one's self, “What would Jesus do?” Anger begins to build: what would Jesus do? Someone has offended you{ what would Jesus do? You lose your job or your marriage is in trouble: what would Jesus do? You will find the answer in the pages of God user manual for life, the Holy Bible. The Bible says be angry (at the right things) but sin not. Jesus went on to say, “Don't let the sun set on your anger.” Someone has offended you; the Bible says to go to that person and work out forgiveness and reconciliation. You lose your job; look for the meaning to your life. God is calling you to something better; look for it. “All things work for good for those called by his name.” Can this marriage be saved …Read 1 Corinthians 13 and put its principle into practice. The Gospel is real and whether you believe it or not does mot change its reality.
