Mama Sang!

Well, Mama sang, I wish you could have been there if you missed the big doinıs at Texas Old Town last Sunday night. There was more talent there than in the Ziegfield Follies, and the Steel Magnolias were a hit. Raw talent undiscovered until now and now God only knows where they will go from here. Letıs just say you havenıt heard the last of them and leave it at that. I will keep you informed through this column where their careers will take them next. Donıt be surprised if they hit the road. You know how infectious it is to hear the applause of the crowds.

The Magnolias really are good. They arenıt like the old fellow who sang in the church choir. He could not carry a note to save his life but he loved to sing. Finally the pastor went to him and said, "Sam, Iıve got to ask you to step down from the choir. You jest canıt sing and people have been asking me to do something about it."

Sam looked at him and said, "Pastor, you know how much I love to sing, and I do the best I can. How many folks have talked to you about it?"

"Well, Sam," said the pastor, "so far at least eight folks have mentioned it to me."

"Well, shucks, pastor," said Sam, "a whole lot more than that have said you can't preach real good but you keep on tryin."

I guess really the lesson that Debbie Daniels wants us to see in the Ole Time Gospel Sings is that we are to use our talents to reach others for the Lord. These folks are all amateurs as far as their orientation. Some are better than others but they love the Lord and are an inspiration to the audience.

The Magnolias represent the senior saints showing the spirit of service to their Lord that should inspire others to recognize they are still needed in the service of the King. We never get too old to do something new to show our love for Jesus.

The other lesson here is never say I canıt do something. The Bible admonishes us when it says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Age has very little to do with it. There are so many things we can do to serve the Lord. The worst thing you can do is sit in the pew and do nothing.

We serve a mighty God who loves us so much that He sent His Son to die on the cross as our Savior and Redeemer. To serve Him is our lot; to present ourselves a living sacrifice, which is our just service. When He opens doors of service we are to be ready to come in. He will not call us to any service that He will not gift us with the ability to do the job. Be ready for your call to preach, to witness, to serve or to sing. God loves to hear His name in praise and in song.
